Casing Burst Pressure = 0.875 * 2 * Y * T / OD
Where:
Burst = Casing burst pressure, psi
Y = API minimum specified yield stress of the pipe, psi. Range is 40,000 - 120,000 psi
T = Wall thickness, inches
OD = Pipe OD, inches. Range is .5" - 48".
The value for Y is selected at the point where the load line reaches 0.5% elongation
(or greater for higher yield materials). At this elongation, most grades have exhibited
some amount (though minor) of permanent deformation.
Other program inputs:
Steel Density = Density of Steel, normally assumed to be 67.3 lbs/ft3. Range is
60-75 lbs/ft3.
Pipe Weight, range is 1 - 1000 lbs/ft
Note: .875 is a 12.5% mill tolerence allowance
